Lily had created a beautiful poster for us to place out at Neverland so on Friday, July 3rd, Virgie, Peter, Domi, Tia and myself took it out to Neverland. Unlike last week, where there were maybe 20 people there, we arrived early evening to find hundreds of people and scores of cars and vans parking on the side of this little 2 way street. CNN, Fox and a host of TV stations were there to capture the moment.
This time, there was MJ music from a variety of places and, as you walked closer to the front entrance of Neverland, you heard numerous songs. People were dancing in the street and others were yelling “Michael, Michael, Michael!” We chose a place within the flower bed and had 2 large helium balloons anchored to the poster. There were people who immediately started photographing the poster that Lily had made. This occasion was different from last week, when we were shocked and stunned to hear about Michael’s passing. This time when we visited, there was song and dance and a celebration of his life. It felt good to be there among others, young and old, of different generations, who had enjoyed his artistic talent. I’m sure there are many who are tired of his news coverage, but I feel it is important to give him his due. After the memorial service, the news will most likely cover the things I don’t want to tune in and watch; namely, the possible custody battle over his children, the contesting of his will, the toxicology report, etc. etc. I prefer to just remember him and his music and honor him in this way. Rest in peace, Michael – from our family to yours…
